The Enticing Gap
This was the first landscape challenge held at Picton Castle and was an open competition held in May 2022.
The competition was judged by esteemed landscape artist DAVID TRESS (one of my heroes!)
who described my en plein air work as "having all the elements of a good painting, with balance, contrast and expression in abundance".
I find it's always best to work on at least two paintings at a time, as this allows drying time for each. With this second painting I was examining the textural planting in the walled garden, using free-flowing expressive marks.
It didn't win a prize, but gained lots of praise on the day!
A simple set-up on the grass and a small selection of my favourite acrylics
and inks and I was off!
